12. Gideon (Gedschel) CANMAN^1,38 was born on 13 January 1824 in Rheinbischofscheim, Baden, Germany.¹ He appeared in the census in 1850 in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. In the 1850 US Census, Gideon is listed living with his mother, Dina, and his brother, Marx. He appeared in the census in 1870 in St. Louis, Missouri, USA.³⁹ This index lists Gideon as age 46, white, and born in Baden. Gideon died of variola (smallpox) on 26 October 1874 at the age of 50 in St. Louis, Missouri, USA.⁴⁰ In the September 1859 issue of the Missouri Republican, Gideon Cahnman is on the list of gentlemen with letters remaining uncalled for at the Post Office.

Gideon (Gedschel) CANMAN and Rosa WOHL were married before 1853. Rosa WOHL³⁸, daughter of Solomon WOHL, was born in 1828 in Bohemia.^41,42 She died in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. Her brother, Phillip, was from Karlsbad per the article on David Wohl
in the St. Louis Post.
