In the 1850 US Census, Gideon is listed living with his mother, Dina, and his brother, Marx. He appeared in the census in 1870 in St. Louis, Missouri.¹⁹ This index lists Gideon as age 46, white, and born in Baden. He died of variola (smallpox) on October 26, 1874 in St. Louis, Missouri.²⁰

Gideon (Gedschel) Canman and Rosa Wohl were married before 1853. Rosa Wohl¹⁸ (daughter of Solomon Wohl) was born in 1828 in Bohemia.^21,22 She died in St. Louis, Missouri. Her brother, Phillip, was from Karlsbad per the article on David Wohl
in the St. Louis Post. Gideon (Gedschel) Canman and Rosa Wohl had the following children:
