11. Jacob Canman^1,15,16 was born on February 20, 1821 in Rheinbischofscheim, Baden, Germany.¹ "History of Shiloh. . . .Shilo . . .had its beginning when Edwin Pierce erected the first house in 1845. The first store-house, erected by Jacob Canmann, opened the same year."
from an unidentified community history sent to me by Lou Canman. He died on July 7, 1896.¹⁷ He owned a farm in Belleville, Illinois and a liquor business which he operated with his brother, Marx (Werner Cahnman, May 3, 1971)

Jacob Canman and Jane Wakefield were married on June 25, 1846 in St. Clair County, Illinois.¹⁵ Jane Wakefield¹⁶ (daughter of Father Wakefield and Mahalay ?) was born in 1825. The 1880 Census gives her birthplace as both Indianna and Illinois. Jacob Canman and Jane Wakefield had the following children:
