He died on 7 July 1896 at the age of 75 in St. Louis, Missouri, USA.34,35 He was buried at Bellefontaine Cemetery, Block 67, Lot 859. in St. Louis, Missouri, USA.34 He owned a farm in Belleville, Illinois and a liquor business which he operated with his brother, Marx (Werner Cahnman, May 3, 1971)

Jacob CANMANN and Martha Jane "Jane" WAKEFIELD were married on 25 June 1846 in Saint Clair County, Illinois.32 Martha Jane "Jane" WAKEFIELD33,36, daughter of Father WAKEFIELD and Mahala HAWKINS, was born in 1825. The 1880 Census gives her birthplace as both Indianna and Illinois. A conflicting birth date of in 1827 has also been reported .36 She died in April 1882 at the age of 57.36 She was buried at Bellefontaine Cemetery, Block 67, Lot 859. in St. Louis, Missouri, USA.36 Werner Cahnman wrote that Leo's wife and Jacob's wife were sisters from South Carolina. In the 1880 Census, Mahaly Wakefield, age 84, is listed as living both with Jane Wakefield Canman and Maria Wakefield Canman Knecht. Mahaly Wakefield was born in South Carolina as were both her parents.
