Gordon Sager5,17 was born in 1915 in St. Louis, Missouri.5,32 He died on 23 Jan 1991 in San Francisco, California.8,33 He died of a secobarbital overdose. From a printed biography from the Enoch Pratt Free Library sent to me by Michael Willis:
Gordon Sager, born in St. Louis in 1915, took his B.A. at Washington University before going to New York to start his career. While typing balance sheets for a Wall Street firm he learned that The New Yorker: needed a young man to type in Harold Ross's office--male because Ross customarily unguarded in his language, did not like to feel that a woman was within earshot. While working there Mr. Sager typed out a story of his own and sold it to The New Yorker. Not long after, he joined the editorial staff. Mr. Sager left The New Yorker to start a series of journeys that, he hopes, have just begun. He has lived in Mexico, the West Indies, North Africa and many of the countries of Europe. Of them all he prefers Italy, and of the cities of Italy, Venice--the scene of his
third novel, The Formula. (His other two are Run, Sheep, Run and The Invisible Worm.)
