Leiba YATOVITZ^{3,9,10,11,12,13} was born in 1840 in Raksik, Lithuania.^2,3 A conflicting birth date of in 1842 has also been reported .¹² He resided in Rokiskis, Lithuania on 22 January 1895.^3,12 He resided in Redutka in 1897.¹⁴ In American records, Joseph Freedman referred to his father as Louis.
However, he is listed in Lithuanian records as Leiba.
He was blind from the age of three.

Leiba YATOVITZ and Feiga EINBINDER were married about 1884. Feiga EINBINDER^{3,10,11,12,15}, daughter of Motel ?, was born in 1848 in Lithuania. A conflicting birth date of in 1853 has also been reported .^{12 3,12 14} She was also known as Feiga Sandler.¹⁴ Joseph Freedman gives his mother's name as Fannie Einbinder on his
alien registration and as Fannie Sandler on his Social Security
application. In the Lithuanian records she is called Feiga.
She is listed as blind from age 10.
